Windows 11: NordVPN now available for new ARM PCs

With NordVPN, one of the best-known providers of VPN solutions for private users has presented a version of its software for use on ARM-based Windows PCs for the first time. This means that the range of programs for the new PCs is growing by a significant element.

NordVPN announced the app months ago

As NordVPN announced today in a press release, the app from the Netherlands-based software provider with Lithuanian roots is now also available for Windows PCs with an ARM platform. In addition to providers such as Private Internet Access (PIN) and ExpressVPN, Nord Security’s NordVPN is one of the first providers of such solutions that also support ARM systems with Windows.

VPN solutions (Virtual Private Network) have so far been one of the “everyday applications” that many users of ARM-based Windows PCs have particularly missed. After all, the tools are now used by many users – and not just because of the providers’ considerable advertising effort to protect your own data from access by third parties or to access regionally blocked online offers. Because the VPN apps work with their own virtual network adapters, it was previously hardly possible to get them to run on the new ARM PCs via emulation, as is usual with many x86 apps.

With the availability of natively running versions, this problem resolves itself. However, the range of functions of the NordVPN app for ARM-based Windows 11 PCs is still somewhat limited. This is how the company states on the Download page for the ARM version its software indicates that threat protection features are not yet included in this edition. These are additionally integrated functions to combat malware, which are not part of the basic tasks of NordSec’s VPN solution.

Downloading NordVPN for ARM PCs with Windows is not only possible on systems with the new Snapdragon X processors, but also on older devices that have come onto the market with ARM CPUs in recent years, including the Surface Pro X or the Surface Pro 9 5G. As always, the thing to keep in mind with NordVPN and other VPN providers is that they only provide their services by paying a monthly subscription fee.
