In the run-up to Patch Day, Microsoft is now distributing another optional update to all Windows 11 users. Among other things, the KB5014668 patch integrates the new “highlights” within the Windows search and imports various bug fixes. The update to Windows 11 Build 22000.778 is still considered a “preview”, which, however, can be downloaded for anyone outside the Insider Program. As usual, the manual way to install it is to check for updates in the Windows Update menu. The update should be automatically imported by the next Patch Day, which will be July 12, 2022, at the latest.
Even if the Redmond company focuses on the new search highlights, not all Windows 11 users will be delivered immediately when the new feature launches. Just like the test series in the Insider program, the final version is also being rolled out in waves. We’re talking a few weeks or even months before wide availability is guaranteed. According to Microsoft, the new highlights appear within the search as “moments of interest” in the form of images, websites, posts, and the like on the occasion of holidays, anniversaries, or special events within the user’s region.
For business customers, on the other hand, updates about employees, appointments, and shared files appear in the highlights. Aside from the search highlights, the KB5014668 update brings a variety of bug fixes that are part of the official Patch Notes to be mentioned. Among other things, Microsoft is solving a fundamental technical issue that seemed to have previously prevented users from upgrading to Windows 11. The developers are also fixing various audio issues related to games and Bluetooth connections, and also seem to have fixed the recent issues with the Wi-Fi hotspot feature. Accordingly, the pre-download may be worth it.
