Windows 11 Update KB5070311: Dark Mode Fix Creates New “White Flash” Bug

Yesterday Microsoft released a new update for Windows 11, KB5070311, with which they want to eliminate a number of problems. In this case, however, there is a new error that may “scare” some “Dark Mode” users when opening File Explorer.

Microsoft makes improvements, causes new problems

Anyone who uses the “dark mode” of the Windows 11 interface must be prepared for a brief “flare up” of the screen contents when opening the file explorer after installing the recently released optional update KB5070311. Microsoft has also created a new problem with the update, which is actually intended to make “Dark Mode” more consistent. Specifically, when you open the file browser, you may see a completely white surface for a short time before the files and folders are loaded in Explorer.

The developers give this in the Release notes for the new update KB5070311 which is actually supposed to bring many positive improvements for dark mode. If you use dark mode in the evening or at night in a dark environment, you might be startled for a moment if the display suddenly lights up when you open File Explorer. Microsoft says it is currently working on eliminating the cause of this behavior. KB5070311, as we reported this morning, also brings some positive changes for dark mode users. The dialogs for copying, moving and deleting content are now correctly visually adapted to dark mode in both normal and expanded view. The same applies to progress bars and the diagrams that appear from time to time, confirmation and error dialogs and other details that previously lacked consistency.
