Windows 11 Works On Xiaomi Mi 8
The new Redmond operating system Windows 11 can be run not only on PCs but also on smartphones. Hobbyists have managed to get a preview version to work on the Xiaomi Mi 8. Now the project has been expanded with new functions.
The project is called “Renegade” and is led by the Chinese developer Xilin Wu. After Windows 11 has been successfully installed on the Xiaomi Mi 8, the operating system now also supports the GPU and the WLAN module of the smartphone. In addition, there is now support for energy management so that Windows 11 can react to a low battery level. The functions are demonstrated in a video.
The clip shows that the Xiaomi Mi 8 with Windows 11 can run everyday applications and games such as Minecraft without any problems. A USB hub with a connected mouse and keyboard was connected to the smartphone for operation.
Bluetooth and x64 still cause problems
At the moment, however, not all features seem to be working perfectly. So there are currently still problems with the Bluetooth driver. In addition, the GPU cannot display x64 programs. The bugs may be fixed in the coming weeks.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 is not the only smartphone on which Windows 11 can be started. The new operating system has also already been installed on the Lumia 950 XL. According to Gizmochina, other devices are the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T, Xiaomi Mi MIX 3, Xiaomi Pocophone F1, Meizu 16th Plus, Hammer Nut R1, Black Shark Phone 1, Oppo Find X, Xiaomi MIX2S, LG G7, Samsung S9 +, Nubia X, Nokia 9 PureView, Asus ZenFone 5Z and the Vivo NEX. The devices have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC.
