Windows 11’s New feature to warn against phishing attacks

Microsoft wants to give its Windows 11 operating system a feature that can be used to improve security. In the future, there will be phishing protection that can detect fake emails and plenty of sites targeting the user’s data. According to desk mud the new phishing protection can be activated via the settings. To do this, the user must access the system settings and then the “Windows Security” submenu. The new option will then be listed under “Browser management” and “Reliability-based protection”. The user can choose to be protected from malicious sites and from insecure password storage.

In the current Insider build, the respective settings can also be managed using Group Policy. The phishing protection is called “WebThreatDefense” here. It’s not clear at this time how exactly the feature works. The program probably evaluates a site’s trustworthiness based on several criteria and compares the address to a list of known phishing sites. The security is intended to inform the user if an entered password has already been used elsewhere and is therefore likely to be compromised. The feature also warns if a website sends a password in unencrypted form.

Users rate pages themselves

It is currently unclear whether Microsoft will later offer the feature for older builds of Windows 11 and will come up with an update. Of course, keep in mind that phishing protection will not detect malicious sites. As with antivirus programs, the feature should only serve as extra protection. Of course, every user must continue to ensure that the trustworthiness of a page is checked before entering it.
