Windows 8 Ends Soon, Microsoft To Send Warning

The next Microsoft operating system is nearing the end of its lifecycle. In a few months, Windows 8.1 will reach end-of-life (EOL) status. The manufacturer will therefore soon inform users directly on their computer. So if you’re still using Windows 8.1, you can be prepared for corresponding notifications to appear on the screen from July onwards. This then informs the user that the period of official support for the operating system by Microsoft will end on January 10, 2023, and that the product is thus essentially nearing its final end.

As Microsoft announced, the notification will contain several options. This way, users can decide not to be harassed again until the EOL date. A renewed reminder in a few days can also be selected. In addition, the company also offers the opportunity to learn more about the meaning of EOL status and the resulting opportunities.

The new computer makes sense

And that must be important for the planning for the users. Because Microsoft emphasizes that there are currently no free upgrade paths from Windows 8.1 to a newer operating system such as Windows 10 or Windows 11. Here you must be prepared to buy a new license. However, according to Microsoft, it’s even better to invest in a new computer – because the computers built for Windows 8.1 were developed with technologies that are now at least ten years old. In any case, you should refrain from further use, as no more security patches will be provided after January 10.

Microsoft released Windows 8.1 on October 17, 2013. It was an attempt to fix various bugs and other issues that became apparent with the release of Windows 8 and prevented users from getting excited about the new operating system. However, the improvements here only helped to a limited extent and the product generation has never been able to gain greater market shares.
