Windows laptops can get a capability that the MacBook lacks thanks to Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus

Microsoft Surface Laptops

We can expect the arrival of Snapdragon X Elite powered devices at some point in middle of this year. Apart from this, Qualcomm is considering the release of a budget-friendly option for its ARM-based Windows chip series. Reportedly, the company will debut Snapdragon X Plus.

According to a recent report, the company is working on two different versions of the Snapdragon X Plus System-on-Chip (SoC). These two versions are expected to provide a significant benefit over Apple’s existing MacBook portfolio. Reportedly, the chips carry the model numbers X1P44100 and X1P46100.

Interestingly, the “X Plus” Snapdragon ARM processors can be distinguished from the Snapdragon X Elite chips by using the prefix “X1P” instead of “X1E” in their model numbers. There are no details about the specifics of these chips. In accordance with the naming convention, it is obvious that these chips are downgraded version of their counterpart. Less cores could be one of the differentiators in this case, much like Apple does with its M-series chips.

When it comes to performance, the raw performance of X Elite can’t be equal to X Plus. It is believed to be an option for the affordable ARM-based Windows notebooks. Additionally, it appears that Qualcomm is testing an integrated Snapdragon X65 5G modem, which is a crucial component that might make Snapdragon X Plus laptops quite alluring.

Well, if this happens in real-time, we can expect a transformation of the laptop market where we will be having 5G-ready Windows laptops. In this way, Apple will be outpaced since the company has no offerings in the 5G laptop space. Currently, there are no details about the official release. However, we can expect them to arrive at the end of this year or next year.
