Windows makes file sharing and linking easier for Android

Microsoft is making it easier than ever to connect and share between Windows and Android phones with new upgrades to its Phone Link feature. These updates are rolling out to users in the latest Windows 11 Insider build and are expected to reach everyone soon.

Here’s a breakdown of the three major improvements Microsoft has introduced, as detailed in their announcement post:

Seamless Phone Pairing via the Start Menu

Users can now pair a new Android or iOS phone directly from the Start menu, thanks to a dedicated pane on the right side. This eliminates the hassle of searching for the Phone Link app on your PC, making the feature more accessible and user-friendly.

New iPhone Integration Features

The Start menu pane now displays a connected iPhone’s battery level and connectivity status, a feature previously limited to Android devices. It also offers quick access shortcuts for messages and calls, so you can manage your phone straight from Windows.

Quick File Sharing Made Easy

Sharing files between your PC and smartphone is now faster with the new Send files button at the bottom of the Phone Link pane. Whether you’re using Android or iOS, transferring files is just a click away.

 Requirements to Access These Features

These upgrades are available with Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 4805 and higher in the Beta Channel, and 26120.3000 and higher in the Dev Channel. You’ll also need Phone Link version 1.24121.30.0 or later. Keep in mind that Bluetooth LE is required, and the features won’t work on PCs running Pro Education or Education SKUs.
