With new closed captioning languages, Google Meet becomes more accessible

When it comes to the accessibility of the apps, Google is the top company that considers it very well. Google Meet is the video calling app of Google. It has received several new updates and features over the course of the past few months. Specifically, the company has added several features for disabled users. As of now, the tech firm is ready to roll out another major update for the app. Reportedly, the company will add various new languages to the app’s closed captioning and translated captions. 

Google introduces closed captioning in seven languages for the Google Meet app

The information was shared on the Google Workspace blog. As per the information, the app will receive closed captioning for several languages Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Polish, and Romanian. Do note that it is under beta testing currently. Besides this, the company has added French Canadian to the list. However, the feature is only available on the web version. it will soon be rolled out for mobile as well.

Furthermore, the company claims that the languages like Dutch, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Russian, are no more in the beta stage. These languages were being beta tested for closed captioning. In addition to this, users will gain access to the translated captions as well. Using this feature, users can translate video calls into Dutch, Indonesian, Turkish, and Vietnamese language. This feature is still under beta testing.

Google claims that the new closed captioning languages will be rolled out for all users irrespective of their Google Workspace subscription type. However, the upgraded translated captions are restricted to certain Workspace tiers like Business Plus, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Business Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, and the Teaching and Learning Upgrade.

Nevertheless, these upgrades signify that Google Meet’s closed captioning will now support more languages. The creators of the video calling platform added Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese to the app’s live captioning by the end of 2020. These all-new improvements will help Google Meet be usable by more people with disabilities.
