Xiaomi Electric car Crashes Using Autopilot

In China there was a fatal accident with the first electric car from Xiaomi for the first time. The manufacturer and the authorities now want to check how the serious incident could occur. The autopilot was active shortly before the crash.
Xiaomi ensures cooperation for investigation

Autopilot system warned of obstacle
The system then issued a warning of obstacles on the route, whereupon a person inside the car took control a few seconds before the crash. The person still tried to slow down the car, but the vehicle then crashed into a concrete pillar at about 97 km/h.
The accident occurred in the city of Tongling in the eastern Chinese province of Anhui. According to a report by the Chinese financial newspaper Caixin Both the driver and two passengers were fatally injured in the accident. Local media also reported that the car caught fire after the collision. According to Xiaomi, the incorrect model of the SU7 is the basic version that is equipped with a purely camera -based system for autonomous driving.
The lidar sensors for the advanced self-driving functions are only installed in the more expensive versions of the SU7 ex works. So far, the Xiaomi SU7 has only been officially sold in China.
