Xiaomi Takes Lead In Europe Leaving Samsung And Apple Behind

Xiaomi climbs to the top of the European smartphone market. According to the latest analyzes, the Chinese manufacturer achieved a market share of over 25 percent in the second quarter of 2021 and is ahead of its competitors Samsung, Apple, Oppo, and Realme in Europe.

The analysts of the market research company Strategy Analytics announced their forecast for smartphone sales in the second quarter of 2021. In Europe, Xiaomi has for the first time achieved a market share of 25 percent with a total of 12.7 million smartphones sold. In a year-on-year comparison, the manufacturer recorded an increase of over 67 percent. The European market will grow by around 14 percent in the period from April to June 2021 with a total of more than 50 million devices shipped.

Samsung Going Down, Apple Improves

Among the top 5, behind Xiaomi, are the South Korean manufacturer Samsung with a market share of 24 percent and an annual decline of seven percent, and Apple, whose sales again increased by 15 percent and thus account for a market share of 19.2 percent. The analysts set the number of iPhones sold at 9.6 million copies, with Apple not announcing official sales figures. The two industry giants are followed by newcomers such as Oppo (5.6 percent) and Realme (3.8 percent).

In a press release, Xiaomi indicates that the positive development of the smartphone market was primarily “driven by a sustained economic upswing, stable demand from consumers with older devices and attractive, affordable 5G devices”. Just a few weeks ago, the analysts at Canalys confirmed the Chinese manufacturer had a global market share of 17 percent in the second quarter of 2021, which is only a few percentage points behind Samsung (19 percent) and ahead of Apple (14 percent) in second place.
