For the smartphone flagship Xperia 1 IV, Sony has presented a very special mobile phone case aimed at gamers. The Xperia Stream was created after consultation with professional eSports gamers and expands the smartphone with an active fan, a full-fledged RJ45 Ethernet socket, HDMI, and a 3.5 mm jack.
The Xperia Stream phone case for the Xperia 1 IV is available on the Hong Kong manufacturer’s website under the product number XQZ-GG01 found but has not yet been given a price or delivery date. In parallel, an Xperia 1 IV Gaming Edition is presented, which comes in a bundle with the case. However, Sony has not yet given a price for this version either.
An active fan is located centrally on the back of the case, which draws in the fresh air and dissipates waste heat, thus keeping the temperatures of the smartphone under control during long gaming sessions and keeping the performance high. Fresh air is also blown over the front of the smartphone. In the Xperia 1 IV, Sony relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which needs to be cooled.
The fan can be operated in automatic or manual mode with several speed levels via the “Game Enhancer” for Android. In addition, you can set, among other things, how high the maximum temperature of the smartphone may rise during operation.
The Xperia Stream makes contact with the smartphone via the USB-C connection and is then simply placed around the device. However, the accessory replicates this port and the 3.5 mm jack socket, which is also covered by the case, on the underside. There, buyers will also find a full-fledged RJ45 Ethernet port and a full-fledged HDMI socket, which also supports image output at 120 Hz with Full HD resolution. The manufacturer promises “competitive gaming” and a “fast and stable” connection using a LAN cable ping.
With the Xperia Stream, however, Sony is by no means the first provider of active cooling for smartphones. Such accessories are particularly popular in Asia, and RedMagic even has fans integrated into the device. Asus recently introduced an active cooler with a Peltier element for the ROG Phone 6 (test).
