100 Million Devices Will Use HarmonyOS In 2021 Huawei Claims

Huawei is confident in the future of HarmonyOS, it’s alternative to Android. According to the Chinese firm, 40 brands will rely on the operating system from next year. Almost, 100 million devices in the world will run on HarmonyOS from 2021, ensures Huawei, anxious to emancipate itself from Android and Google.

After years of development, Huawei finally launched the first HarmonyOS beta intended for developers on December 16, 2020. At first, only a few smartphones are compatible with the OS, including the P40 or the Mate 30. With this first beta, the Chinese group seeks to seduce the community of developers, whose membership is essential. With this in mind, Huawei has designed HarmonyOS as a modular operating system, which easily adapts to most connected objects and terminals. Ultimately, developers do not need to program a different application for each category of the terminal.

At a conference organized as part of Huawei Developer Day, Yang Haisong, vice president of the software department at Huawei, reaffirmed the group’s short-term ambitions, reports Huawei Central. “Since the release of the HarmonyOS 2.0 mobile beta, a large number of developers have joined the HarmonyOS ecosystem. We are looking to work with more developers and partners, ”says Yang Haisong. 40 brands will trust HarmonyOS by 2021 According to him, “more than 40 consumer brands” will bet on HarmonyOS in the course of the coming year. Unsurprisingly, Huawei already cites a plethora of Chinese brands (UnionPay, Youku, or even iFlytek), but also world-class companies, including Volvo. In 2019, Geely, the parent company of Volvo Cars, entered into a partnership with Huawei. This agreement provides for the HarmonyOS system to be integrated into connected cars produced by Geely.

Still, according to Yang Haisong, 100 million different devices (connected cars, smartphones, connected watches, screens, TVs, speakers, etc.) will run on HarmonyOS from 2021. Moreover, it is rumored that the Huawei P50 would be the first smartphone sold with the new operating system. With this modular OS, Huawei is gradually starting to abandon Android.
