Microsoft is expanding the availability of the 24H2 update for Windows 11. Despite known problems, users can install the feature update. The Redmond company has confirmed that the update will continue – with the errors still existing.
Microsoft has significantly expanded the availability of the Windows 11 24H2 update, also known as Windows 11 2024. The company announced in one Support post announced that the latest feature update is now being offered for a larger number of compatible devices with Windows 11 version 22H2 and 23H2.
This means that the distribution of the update is entering a new phase of gradual introduction. To find out whether a device is ready for the update, you can simply open Windows Settings. There you navigate to “Settings > Windows Update” and simply click on “Check for updates”. If the system is ready for the update, the “Download and Install” option will appear. As Windows Latest reported, the update is not accessible for all systems despite the expanded availability.
Microsoft has deliberately excluded some configurations, particularly those with incompatible applications or drivers. This approach is not uncommon and is intended to minimize potential problems.
Although Microsoft is pushing forward with the distribution of the update, there are still some known issues. Users should note the following points and be prepared for possible bugs:
Users should be careful if they have enabled the option to receive the latest updates immediately. In this case, Windows 11 24H2 could start installing automatically. It is advisable to back up important data before installation and check whether your system could be affected by known problems. If problems occur after installation, Microsoft offers a new repair function.
The “Fix problems with Windows Update” option can help in many cases, but according to Microsoft it is “not suitable for everyone”. This feature is part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to make the update process more robust and user-friendly.
