The latest Dimensity chip by MediaTek supports Wi-Fi 7 and ray tracing
MediaTek and budget Android phones are frequently associated. But it is expanding and making its way into the flagships. The recent system-on-chip is ready to help on that head. The latest chip by the company i.e, Dimensity 9200 is considered the first SoC ready for Wi-Fi 7. Similar other claims have also been invoiced for the Dimensity 9200. To run the Dimensity 9200 chip, a phone with a suitable network chipset as well as a compatible Wi-Fi router is required. Theoretically, a speed of 6.5Gbps on-device is delivered while ensuring and maintaining reliability as well as reduction of lag.
It is said to be one of the first chips that are based on an ARMv9 Gen 2 architecture. It encompasses new cores to match the features. Most challenging tasks are managed with the help of the “big” Cortex-X3 core as well as three Cortex-A715 performance cores. To help with battery life four Cortex-A510 low-power cores are incorporated. This combination is tested to provide a 10 to 12 percent boost compared to the Dimensity 9000 in imitation tests. Furthermore, it is capable of cutting power consumption by 25%.
According to MediaTek, the Dimensity 9200 is the first chip that features the latest ARM Immortalis-G715 GPU. Thus, delivering the three-time better hardware ray tracing along with greater efficiency. It is about 32% faster and uses 41% less power when compared to Dimensity 9000.
Other improvements are still useful. Unlike many MediaTek chips,
- supports both sub-6GHz and millimeter wave 5G. Thus, providing fast cellular data
- Imagiq 890 image signal processor
- also expect support for fast UFS 4.0 storage
The Imagiq 890 image signal processor is the foremost to provide for RGBW camera sensors. Thus, promising more brightness and detail in photos compared to plain RGB. It can reduce motion blur, too. The fast UFS 4.0 storage is the most recent LPDDR5X memory (8.5Gbps). Additionally, it encompasses 24-bit/192KHz audio.
We should expect that the phones supporting Dimensity 9200 be accessible by the end of 2022. However, this should not be undermined that such chips require more high-end phones. So, we can expect more choices and certainly competition in the future.
