There will be no more updates for the original Smasung Galaxy Fold
Samsung had a turbulent launch with the original Galaxy Fold. The company made great efforts to ensure that its first foldable device remained fully under wraps until it was time to unveil it. However, just in time for the device to arrive on store shelves, some design flaws were found, which forced Samsung to acknowledge that more work needed to be done before it could be sold to consumers.
Finally, the first foldable of the company, Galaxy Fold, arrived on the market in 2019. The sales of the smartphone were not quite impressive given the fact that it was a first-generation product. According to some recent information, support for updates to the original Galaxy Fold is ending. Simply put, the device will no longer receive software updates from the company.
The company recently shared the details of the November 2023 security patch that will be rolled out to Galaxy devices. Notably, the list doesn’t contain the names of the Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Fold 5G. Two years ago, the Galaxy Fold received a major operating system update, i.e., Android 12. Since then, smartphones have received regular security updates as well. However, it is ending now.
The smartphone could receive one final update in specific markets before support officially ends. From now on, there will be a permanent blackout unless a significant security flaw in the Fold and other older Samsung phones is found. One thing to notice here is that only one year of software support is left for the Galaxy Fold 2. Besides this, the Galaxy Z Fold will also continue receiving updates next year; however, the support will end at some point in Q1 2024 since it will mark four years of the device on the market.
