WhatsApp is rolling out self-destructing audio messages all around the world
WhatsApp is the most widely used cross-platform messaging app in the world. It had about 2 billion users worldwide as of February 2020. WhatsApp Web is how a lot of users access the service. You can download the Facebook-owned app on most major platforms. It serves as a link between users on many platforms, allowing them to communicate, share data, and conduct free phone and video chats.
A few months after the functionality was included in the Android and iOS app’s beta version, WhatsApp is now supporting View Once voice communications internationally, underscoring the company’s continued emphasis on security and privacy.
WhatsApp released a common option in 2021 called “View Once,” which allows users to send photographs and videos to a recipient that can only view them once and cannot be screenshotted or saved. It is now being expanded to audio messages, though maybe in this instance, it would have been better to call it Listen Once?
View Once voice messages feature a “one-time” icon next to them, and, like View Once images and videos, they self-destruct on the recipient’s device as soon as they are played again. This will, of course, also apply to audio communications shared in group chats as well as individual ones. These messages will also be encrypted end-to-end, but if a one-time voice message is reported, WhatsApp will still be able to access it.
Voice messages from View Once began to roll out on December 7 and will take a few days to get to every WhatsApp user worldwide. The feature will be available on WhatsApp’s mobile and web/PC editions.
