Android 15 is here, starting for the Pixel family

Android 15 is now available for Pixel devices. The update brings new security features, improved privacy settings and optimizations for foldables and tablets. Users can prepare for numerous innovations.

New Android update: What can users expect?

Google has started distributing Android 15 for Pixel devices. Today’s start date was leaked a few weeks ago. The long-awaited update brings a number of new features and improvements designed to further optimize the user experience on Android devices.

Owners of a Pixel smartphone from the 6 series, the Pixel Fold or the Pixel tablet can install the update now. In the Google blog In addition to the announcement of the Android 15 launch, there is now also an overview of all the innovations that are on board. One of the main innovations in Android 15 is the so-called “Private Space”. This feature allows users to hide specific apps in a protected area.

As Google reports, “social, dating or banking apps,” for example, can be stored in this private area. These apps then do not appear in the app overview, notifications or settings. To access the Private Space, additional authentication is required.

Improved security and theft protection

Android 15 places a strong focus on improved security features. The recently introduced “Theft Detection Lock” function has been further expanded. This feature uses artificial intelligence to detect possible theft of the device and automatically lock it. Also new is the “Remote Lock” feature, which allows users to lock their smartphone remotely using another Android device, their phone number and a simple security check.

Optimizations for foldables and tablets

Owners of foldables and tablets can look forward to special optimizations. Android 15 introduces the ability to pin or hide the taskbar at will. This allows the available screen space to be used more flexibly. Another practical innovation is app pairing: users can combine frequently used apps into a pair and start them with just a tap on an icon.

Further improvements

Android 15 also brings expanded camera controls for third-party apps. This allows for better integration of camera functions into various applications. The ability to specifically share parts of the screen has also been implemented – a function that should be particularly useful in video conferences. What’s interesting is that with this new update, Google is also further expanding support for older Android versions.

Apps developed for Android 6.0 (aka Marshmallow) can now run on Android 15. This shows Google’s efforts to reduce the fragmentation of the Android ecosystem. By the way: The smartphone manufacturer Vivo started distributing Android 15 at the end of September – that was a real novelty and a surprise.
