Microsoft Makes OpenAI’s “Think Deeper” Feature Free for All Copilot Users

In September 2024, OpenAI introduced the o1 series of AI models, designed to approach complex tasks with more in-depth reasoning. These models excel in areas like science, coding, and math, tackling challenges other leading AI systems struggle with. Initially, the o1 models were available exclusively to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users.

Fast forward to October 2024, Microsoft announced a new Copilot Labs feature called “Think Deeper” for its Copilot Pro users. This feature leverages OpenAI’s o1 reasoning models to help solve difficult problems.

Today, Microsoft has taken things a step further by making the Think Deeper feature completely free for all Copilot users. This means that anyone can now access OpenAI’s powerful o1 reasoning models at no cost—a remarkable value for those seeking detailed, step-by-step answers to their toughest questions.

While the Think Deeper feature may take a bit more time to respond (around 30 seconds), the tradeoff is worth it, as it provides thoughtful, comprehensive solutions to complex challenges.

Microsoft AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman shared his excitement about this milestone in a LinkedIn post:

“The possible uses here are really infinite. I’m genuinely so excited that our tens of millions of users are all getting this opportunity. We’ve got so much more in the pipeline right now that I can’t wait to tell you about. But in the meantime, life is full of chaos and complex problems. Let Think Deeper shoulder some of the mental load!”

To try Think Deeper, simply head to the Copilot website or mobile app, and click the “Think Deeper” button in the query bar before entering your question. In about half a minute, you’ll receive a thorough, well-reasoned response.

This move reflects a significant step forward in making advanced AI solutions more accessible and useful to a wider audience. Whether you’re solving a tricky math problem, brainstorming a new idea, or diving into complex data, Think Deeper is here to help.
