Nvidia Shield Experience 9.2 Update Brings Auro-3D Sound and Bug Fixes

The Nvidia Shield, first launched in 2015, continues to prove its staying power nearly a decade later. Known for its exceptional long-term software support, Nvidia regularly updates the Shield with new features and fixes, keeping it relevant in the ever-evolving streaming landscape. Staying true to this commitment, Nvidia has rolled out the Shield Experience Upgrade 9.2 for both the base and Pro models, bringing a host of improvements and a standout new feature: Auro-3D support for immersive audio.

The last major update for the Nvidia Shield arrived in November 2022, with a few hotfixes released intermittently since then. The October 2024 firmware update primarily tackled lingering bugs, but the new Shield Experience Upgrade 9.2 is a more substantial release. According to Nvidia, the main highlight is the addition of Auro-3D, unlocking high-resolution, immersive sound playback over HDMI. To fully enjoy this feature, you’ll need an Auro-3D-compatible decoder and streaming apps that support the format.

The update also introduces other enhancements, including support for matching audio content resolution when using a USB DAC and improvements to the Frame Rate matching feature.

Here are some highlights from the latest Nvidia Shield Experience 9.2 update. You can read the full release notes here:

The Update is Rolling Out Now

The Shield Experience Upgrade 9.2 is already widely available, with multiple Reddit users confirming the rollout. If you own a Shield streaming device, check for the update to take advantage of these new features and fixes.

It’s impressive to see Nvidia continue supporting the original Shield and its Pro sibling when most companies stop updating their streaming devices after just a few years. If you’re still holding onto your Nvidia Shield, this update is yet another example of why it remains one of the best streaming devices around.
