Meta has introduced its next generation of smart glasses – this time in cooperation with the sports glasses brand Oakley. The new Oakley Meta HSTN (pronounced “Hau-Stan”) aim at a sporty active target group and offer clear technical improvements compared to the previous Ray Ban models. The limited gold edition costs 549 euros and can be pre-ordered from July 11th, while the regular models should come onto the market at a price from $ 439 later in the summer.

The technical progress is remarkable: the Oakley Meta HSTN has an improved camera that can record videos in 3K resolution-a clear upgrade compared to the 1080p of the Ray Ban models. In addition, the battery life was doubled, so that the glasses now last up to eight hours. The loading case offers an additional 48 hours of energy, which corresponds to an increase of twelve hours compared to the Ray Ban counterpart. The collaboration between Meta and Essilorluxottica, the parent company of Ray-Ban and Oakley, proves to be extremely successful. According to META, more than two million copies of the Ray-Ban Meta have already been sold. Essilorluxottica plans to increase production by 2026 to ten million smart glasses per year. The functionality of the Oakley Meta HSTN largely corresponds to the Ray-Ban models: via the integrated camera, microphones and speakers, users can listen to music, make calls and interact with the meta-Ki.

The AI can answer questions about the environment and even translate languages. The market for smart glasses is growing continuously: Google mother group Alphabet has recently announced a $ 150 million partnership with Warby Parker to develop glasses with Google Gemini AI. Snap plans the introduction of its sixth generation AR glasses for 2026.
