Fritz Delivers Fresh Lab Updates for FritzBox 5690 Pro, 6690 Cable and 6670 Cable

In the middle of the week, Fritz will once again deliver new beta software for several of its devices that are currently participating in the laboratory program. Three FritzBox models are receiving an update that is now available to owners of the routers.
Supplies from the lab
At the start of October, Fritz not only brought four new products onto the market, but also diligently distributed updates. Five FritzBox models were provided with new beta firmware. And after FritzOS 8.20 has just been released for additional routers and repeaters, there is now additional supplies from the laboratory. Three FritzBoxes receive new beta firmware in the form of FritzOS 8.10. In addition to a fiber optic router, there is also an update for two cable models. Owners of the following three devices can now download and install a fresh version of the OS:
- FritzBox 5690 Pro – Version: 8.10-125214
- FritzBox 6690 Cable – Version: 8.10-125202
- FritzBox 6670 Cable – Version: 8.10-125199
Just small adjustments
As usual lately, the update only makes minor changes. All three routers have the infamous “stability improvements”. This makes it the third time in a row for the FritzBox 5690 Pro that a new beta firmware only includes this adjustment. With the FritzBox 6690 Cable and 6670 Cable, a specific error has to be fixed. In the graphical overview under “Cable information” a TAE socket was incorrectly shown instead of a multimedia socket. After updating to the new beta version of the firmware, this should no longer be the case.
installation
If you own one of the three FritzBox models and would like to benefit immediately from the new improvements, you will find all the files you need to install the update on the Fritz’s laboratory website. After downloading the appropriate version, the update can be installed after unzipping the files via the router’s user interface under “System” > “Updates” and the “FritzOS file” tab. As always, when installing beta firmware, it is recommended to back up the device settings beforehand.
