Apple offers music subscriptions: These prices apply immediately

Apple Music is now charging more money for all subscriptions. The new tariff list shows how much more expensive the streaming service will be for individual users and families. The question remains whether users will now switch to cheaper competitors.

Prices for music subscriptions are rising

Apple Music is becoming more expensive in Germany and other countries. Around four years after the last adjustment, the group is increasing the prices for several tariff levels. The individual subscription now costs 11.99 euros instead of 10.99 euros per month. The increase is more significant for family subscriptions for up to six people.

The price increases from 16.99 euros to 19.99 euros. Students will also pay 6.99 euros in the future, which is one euro more. New customers must accept the new prices immediately. Existing customers will be informed and must agree to the change before it takes effect in the next billing cycle.

Reasons for the surcharge

As Apple As reported, features such as lossless audio and 3D sound remain unchanged. The company cites increased license costs as the reason. This means that record companies, publishers and artists have to pay higher taxes.

The music industry has been discussing higher compensation per stream for years. As it is said, Apple sometimes pays more than other providers compared to the industry, but many artists still demand higher income. Apple also recently increased prices for hardware and justified this with increased costs. The family subscription for music is now higher than the price of the cheapest “Apple One” for individuals. The “Apple One” package costs 19.95 euros per month and, in addition to music, also includes services such as Arcade, TV Plus and iCloud storage. Users therefore have to compare the offers.

Compared to the market, Apple Music still falls short. In Germany, Spotify currently charges 10.99 euros for the individual subscription and 17.99 euros for the family subscription. Apple also points to integration into its own ecosystem and an additional app for classical music. The percentage increase is particularly significant for families. It remains to be seen whether the prices of the subscription bundles will also increase. The company has not yet commented on this.
