Clayface: First long trailer for the upcoming DC horror film

After the rather fun space adventure “Supergirl”, the next film in the new DC universe is intended to shock viewers: Warner Bros. has now released the first real trailer for “Clayface”, which tells the disturbing origin story of the sinister Batman opponent and is aimed at an adult audience. The DC universe is usually considered to be darker than Marvel, with “Clayface” director James Watkins even contributed a film shortly before Halloween that clearly moves towards body horror. After films like “Eden Lake”, “The Woman in Black” and “Speak no Evil”, Watkins has a lot of experience with the horror genre.

Revenge of a disfigured Hollywood star

“Clayface” tells the story of Matt Hagen (played by Tom Rhys Harries). The former nobody from the streets of Gotham has managed to become a sought-after film star, largely thanks to his flawless looks. But when his path crosses with those of a local gang boss and his people brutally mutilate his face, Hagen’s acting career ends abruptly. In desperation, he turns to the scientist Dr. Caitlin Bates (Naomi Ackie), who has developed a new but still highly experimental reconstructive surgery technology, agrees to a risky treatment trial. As can be seen in the trailer, the procedure initially appears to be successful.

However, not only Hagen’s face, but his entire body turns into a clay-like substance a short time later, which he can change at will. With his new powers, the newly born Clayface sets out on a furious campaign of revenge to hunt down the people who did all this to him.

In the cinema just in time for Halloween

Clayface was produced by Matt Reeves, Lynn Harris, James Gunn and Peter Safran. The film will be released in cinemas in Europe on October 22, 2026.
