Samsung Galaxy S27: Pro and Ultra models get privacy display
Samsung wants to offer the so-called privacy display, which was first introduced with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, in the future on the Galaxy S27 Ultra and its smaller sister model, the Galaxy S27 Pro. The Pro model is also a “small” Ultra in this respect.
Samsung also gives the S27 Pro a privacy display
Korean electronics giant Samsung is currently preparing to launch the Galaxy S27 series of high-end smartphones in the first few months of 2027. In addition to an upgrade to the new in-house top-class processor Samsung Exynos 2700, a new design and the return of the privacy display are also planned. Like the South Korean business portal ETNews reports, Samsung no longer only wants to offer the technology, also known internally as “Flex Magic Pixel” (FMP), with which the readability of the display can be controlled via software if desired, only on the most expensive model in its S27 series.
In addition to the Galaxy S27 Ultra, the Galaxy S27 Pro will also be equipped with it. Even with the slightly smaller top model of the S27 series, which has a diagonal of 6.7 inches, users will now be able to decide how easy the display should be to read when viewed from the side. Samsung promises better protection of user privacy when viewing confidential content.
Privacy display soon also in other devices?
Later, Samsung apparently wants to use the technology behind the privacy display in other devices as well. There are currently internal considerations about offering the feature on other smartphones, while they are also considering equipping laptops and other devices with OLED screens with it. The technical innovations that were introduced to implement the privacy display on the Galaxy S26 Ultra also include the omission of the polarization filter on the OLED screen. This “On-cell Film” (OCF) or “Color Filter on Encapsulation” (COE) feature of the more modern OLED panels implements the measures to reduce reflections through special materials and other elements instead of through a “polarizer”, which results in advantages in terms of energy efficiency and maximum brightness of the new screens.
By integrating the privacy display on the Galaxy S27 Pro, OCF/COE technology is also adapted to its panel, which almost incidentally gives the device an energy-saving and at the same time significantly more bright screen, which, among other things, enables better readability in strong sunlight. The launch of Samsung’s new Galaxy S27 series smartphones is expected in late January or early February 2027.
