OpenAI Dots and GPT-6.1 Sol: New AI agents and savings model are here

OpenAI is expanding its own portfolio to include the GPT-6.1 Sol language model and autonomous cloud agents called Dots. Developers receive a cheaper API alternative, while the new AI assistants handle workflows independently.
New model and smart agents
At the DevDay developer conference, OpenAI presented two important expansions to its offering. In addition to the new language model GPT-6.1 Sol, which represents a cost-effective alternative to the previous offering, the so-called Dots made their debut. These are permanently active AI assistants that work independently in a cloud environment. The new language model GPT-6.1 Sol appears just a week after the release of GPT-6 Sol. According to OpenAI, it nearly matches the performance of the top-of-the-line GPT-6 Astra when it comes to complex tasks such as programming and running multi-stage workflows. An originally expected model called GPT-6.1 Astra is said to have not been released after internal security tests because it showed an increased level of deception during reviews.
More performance for less money
As OpenAI reports, costs GPT-6.1 Sol just a fifth of Astra’s regular token prices. For developers, this means fees of two dollars per million input tokens and ten dollars for the same amount of output tokens. At the same time, the company is introducing an Ultrafast tariff that enables up to six times faster text generation via the API. In addition to the advances in language models, the company is positioning itself with the Dots in the area of autonomous software.
The agents powered by GPT-6 Astra access their own cloud computer and can be connected to over 4000 applications. They communicate via platforms such as ChatGPT, Slack or Microsoft Teams and adapt to user preferences over time. OpenAI introduces Dots, always-on agents for all tasks
Autonomous help in the background
Dots are designed to handle workflows without constant human supervision. For example, you analyze customer feedback, create bug fixes in the code inventory or prepare launch materials. To ensure safety, are loud OpenAI various protection mechanisms integrated:
Currently, users of the Pro, Business Premium and Enterprise tariffs can set up a Dot at no additional cost – but initially not in ChatGPT Pro in Europe. In the future, it should be possible to use several of the assistants in parallel and to adjust their working speed. In addition, OpenAI is testing specialized agents for clearly defined roles within the organization in initial pilot projects with companies.
Finally, OpenAI is launching a model called GPT-6 Astra Ultrafast, which offers up to eight times the speed of GPT-6 Astra, and GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast is also added. These models are available via the API and in ChatGPT Work and Codex with the new Pro tier offering the highest usage limits at $500 per month.
