Vulnerability closed
Anyone who still uses iOS 26 on their iPhone will now receive a security update: Apple has released iOS 26.7.1. The update addresses a graphics processing vulnerability that the company says may have already been exploited in targeted attacks. The update does not bring any new functions.
To protect our customers, Apple does not disclose, discuss, or confirm security issues until an investigation has occurred and patches or new versions are available. Note on the update
The error is in CoreGraphics, a component for processing graphical content. A specially manipulated file could trigger write access outside the intended storage area. This may have enabled the execution of malicious code. Apple fixed the vulnerability with improved memory limit checking; she will be under the Identifier CVE-2026-86950 and Meta Product Security. Apple’s security notice does not reveal how widespread possible misuse was. The company speaks of a report of an “extremely sophisticated” attack on individual, targeted people. This sounds like a state trojan again – but this has not yet been confirmed. iOS versions before iOS 27 could have been affected. This is a serious indication, but not proof that iPhones with iOS 26 were generally attacked. However, anyone who still uses a device with version 26 should update quickly.
