Lots of upgrades: Second-generation Google TV streamer in the works

Google is already working on the next generation of the Google TV streamer, which has replaced the well-known Chromecast. The new model is expected to look similar to before, but some significant upgrades are planned.
Same design, many innovations inside
Google is planning a new “TV Streamer”, which, as before, will provide an Android-based interface for accessing various video and other web content on televisions without its own software. The new model is said to differ little from the “original” visually, but should still bring significant changes.
According to the sources of colleagues from 9to5Google The development of the second generation Google TV streamer has been going on for some time. The new model is said to be slightly narrower, resulting in an overall more compact design. The elongated shape with rounded ends is said to have been retained overall.
New remote control with more buttons
According to reports, Google wants to give the new model built-in microphones through which the TV streamer itself should be able to record commands and thus react to “Hey Google” and other voice input. So far, the microphones are only in the included remote control. The latter will also be revised with the new model. According to the report, Google is giving its remote control two more quick access buttons that complement the existing buttons for accessing Netflix and YouTube. There is another button on the back of the TV streamer that can be used to start a kind of search function if you have misplaced the remote control. Another innovation is the so-called presence detection.
The Google TV Streamer should therefore be able to detect the presence of people in front of the device and then, for example, instead of a photo screensaver, be able to display further information such as the time or weather. Inside the streaming device there should also be a faster platform, which has more flash memory available than the previously installed 32 gigabytes. It is still unclear when and at what price the second generation Google TV streamer will come onto the market. What is certain, however, is that the new model will be more expensive, as Google only significantly increased the price of the current version in August 2026. See also:
