Microsoft encourages customers to sell unused Xbox consoles

Microsoft is currently trying to get used Xbox consoles back on the market. Owners of an unused Xbox Series X or Series S are currently being asked to make their devices available to the used market.

Email to no longer users

Microsoft has been having problems bringing enough new game consoles onto the market for some time. This leads to waiting times, ever-increasing prices and frustrated interested parties. To counteract this, the company has now launched an unusual measure. At least in the USA, customers who have not used their Xbox for a while are being specifically contacted. You are offered to take the devices to the Best Buy chain and exchange them for gift cards worth up to $375 (approximately 320 euros). This means that more used devices will be brought onto the market, at least in the short term.

The user Nintendeal drew attention to the action by posting a corresponding email on social networks published. The offer is apparently aimed primarily at players who hardly use their Xbox anymore or who have now switched to a PC or another platform. How high the credit actually is will depend, among other things, on the model and its features. Consoles with larger memory and optical drives could achieve particularly high amounts.

Price is okay

The $375 (around 320 euros) offered is well below the current new price of an Xbox Series X with a drive. Given the increased hardware prices, the take-back campaign is still competitive: comparable retailers such as GameStop sometimes pay similar amounts or less for used devices.

When it announced further price increases in June, Microsoft said it was working with retail partners on programs for cheaper consoles that were already in use. This now appears to be the result of that. The group also considered interest-free financing and purchase models where customers can pay the amount later.
