Firefox Browser: Several fresh features are coming

An updated roadmap reveals upcoming features for the Firefox browser. Among other things, the developers are working on innovations for more productivity and privacy. These include floating windows and an offline mode for the smartphone.
Increase productivity in everyday life
There’s a lot going on with the Firefox browser right now. The developers first shortened the release cycle in the summer and then released the new Nova design in September. The team is also currently wooing former users with a nostalgic advertising campaign. The roadmap has now been updated and numerous innovations have been announced in areas such as productivity, privacy and performance. Among other things, it includes a mini window with which users will be able to detach individual tabs or areas of a website as a floating element and place them on top of other applications. This helps, for example, to keep an eye on instructions while continuing to work in another tab.
A new reading function will also be available on both desktop and mobile devices. She reads aloud on the smartphone even when the screen is locked. In keeping with this, an offline mode for Android is in the works that allows content to be saved beforehand. This means you can listen to texts later, even on flights or when network coverage is poor, without an active internet connection.
Local language processing
Like the team behind Firefox in the Roadmap of the browser, the data protection settings should also be more finely controllable. Integrated speech recognition is planned for the desktop version, which will provide websites with voice input and subtitles without sending audio data to external servers. After downloading a corresponding language model, the entire text transcription works locally on the computer and completely offline. In addition, the control of the integrated free VPN service is made more flexible. In the future, users should be able to set specific rules for individual domains. To make cleaning up browser data easier, the familiar flame button has moved from the private windows to the regular toolbar in the desktop version. This allows you to delete the history without going through the settings.
Further innovations
In addition, things like improved autofill, reorganized right-click menus, optimized protection against fingerprinting, data leak warnings and customizable keyboard shortcuts are still in the works. In addition, Firefox, similar to Apple’s Safari browser, should be able to notify its users about changes to websites in the future. For example, price changes in online shops can be kept an eye on.
Schedule and already integrated functions
In total, the updated roadmap includes a total of 46 entries. Some innovations can already be tested. To do this, those interested must register their email address on a waiting list. Exact publication dates for the individual roadmap innovations have not yet been set. In one current blog post Mozilla also refers to improvements that have already been introduced such as an accelerated PDF viewer, optimized auto-completion for forms and a customizable tab bar on Android.
