The Elder Scrolls 6: Bethesda reveals official name
Bethesda has revealed the official name for its new role-playing game in a video celebrating the company’s anniversary. The project is titled The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel. A quote from the clip also suggests Hammerfell as a possible location.
Title Sentinel revealed
Bethesda today presented the official subtitle for its upcoming role-playing game (starting at 7:20), namely The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel, in a video celebrating the company’s 40th anniversary. Walking past a display case, executive producer Todd Howard talked about the studio’s games and what they mean to players; At the end of the video, the logo was shown in a short teaser. The announcement comes eight years and four months after the first teaser from 2018. The predecessor, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, was released almost 15 years ago and, according to Bethesda, remains the studio’s most played title in terms of absolute player numbers. According to Todd Howard, in retrospect, announcing the new part early was not his preferred decision.
Evidence of Hammerfell
In addition to the title, the video also provides hints about the content. A quote that appears is from a moth priest named Yazar who serves the Queen of Hammerfell in 4E 206. He speaks of a future lost, a victory undone, and the sands of time scattered by fate. As VGC writes, the title supports reports that the action takes place in the Hammerfell region of the continent of Tamriel.
Sentinel is a town in Hammerfell, located on the northwest coast of Iliac Bay. The province is located west of Cyrodiil and southwest of Skyrim. The region was already the setting in The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfell and The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard, published in 1998. Former developer Bruce Nesmith expressed hope that a setting on Iliac Bay could allow for boat use.
Waiting for more details
Aside from the title and quote, Bethesda is holding back on information about The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel. A release date or supported platforms remain unknown. Most of the Bethesda Game Studios staff is now working on the game. At the same time, according to Todd Howard, the studio is looking ahead to upcoming projects in the Fallout series. In general, the mood in the Redmond company’s studios is not exactly the best, as employees fear further job cuts following recent layoffs at the parent company Microsoft.
