Windows 10 Next Feature Update Will Come By The End Of 2022
With the start of Windows 10 Version 21H2, Microsoft has now also revealed information about the upcoming Windows 10 updates. While there were hardly any details about the further plans with Windows 10 so far, there is now clarity.
In the announcement for the start of distribution of the new Windows 10 21H2 update, John Cable, who is responsible for Windows Servicing and Delivery at Microsoft, also revealed something about the upcoming feature updates. So far, some key data were already known, for example, that Windows 10 will receive support by 2025. Now there are more details. In the Windows Blog, something has now been explained about the publication frequency and further support. It says:
“We will be moving to a new Windows 10 release cycle that adapts to the Windows 11 cycle and targets annual feature updates. Starting with the November 2021 update, the maintenance option for releases will be renamed the General Availability Channel (Note: This replaces The previous term “Semi-Annual Channel” for the maintenance option). The next Windows 10 feature update is planned for the second half of 2022. We will continue to support at least one version of Windows 10 until October 14, 2025. In the second half (H2) of the calendar year, the Home and Pro editions of the November 2021 update will receive 18 months of service and support, while the Enterprise and Education editions will receive 30 months of service and support from today.”
Major Update by the end of 2022
The next major features update for Windows 10 can therefore only be expected in a year, the fourth quarter of 2022. It is not yet known whether it will be a smaller update, as the group recently published every six months, or whether there will be a comprehensive update. Nevertheless, Microsoft recommends updating supported devices to Windows 11 or at least using all available Windows 10 updates and keeping devices up to date.
