A glitch in Apple Podcasts prevents users from enjoying new episodes
A glitch that neither shows the most recent episode nor allows the app to download it automatically for users is keeping subscribers from being able to listen to the most recent episodes of Apple Podcasts. When a user’s preferred podcast has new episodes, the Apple Podcasts app is meant to notify them about it and, if enabled, download, and save it for instant listening on their iPhone or iPad. Occasionally, though, the app doesn’t function this way to its full potential.
Many users are reporting that episodes of podcasts that were launched on Friday are not appearing in the app correctly, as was first noticed by 9to5Mac. The most recent episode is not downloaded to the iPhone or iPad, nor does it show up in the app’s Up Next queue. Even after a screen refresh, a program’s episode list for impacted users and podcasts may show earlier episodes but not the most recent ones.
The not-displayed episode can still be played on the app, but only if the user searches for it with the episode title in mind. For the search to be effective, the user would need to discover the episode’s name in another way. It’s more likely that an Apple server problem than an app-related one is to blame for the small number of impacted shows. If so, Apple may be able to address the issue without needing to release any more software updates, solving the issue for all users.
