This week sees the release of a new version of Quick Share, Samsung’s response to Apple’s AirDrop enabling quick file and media transfers between Galaxy devices (including tablets and laptops) via Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth.
Galaxy devices had both Quick Share and Nearby Share up until last month. Though it wasn’t as effective as Quick Share, Google and Samsung decided to combine the two and make Quick Share the default content sharing option for all Android devices. Nearby Share was Google’s alternative for data transfer between any Android phone or tablet, regardless of brand.
A few weeks ago, an update was released for Galaxy devices that combined the two sharing features into one. Based on the changelog, the current version appears to deliver only minor enhancements to the device’s internal workings, nothing noteworthy.
It’s also possible, though, that not all devices received the original update, and Samsung is addressing that in the version that’s being released this week. The initial update raised the upload limit for files shared with contacts over the cloud to 5GB from 3GB in addition to including Nearby Share into Quick Share. Quick Share’s most recent version may be acquired from the Galaxy Store’s Updates menu. If you can’t see an update yet, keep checking. It might be available after few hours.
