Certain amendments will make it easier to switch from an iPhone to a Galaxy device

Although switching platforms is never simple, the European Union (EU) is working to simplify the process in order to encourage competition and dismantle monopolies. Apple is simplifying the process of moving data from an iPhone to an Android phone in order to comply with the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). This implies that transferring data between an iPhone and a Galaxy device in the future will be simple.

Apple has disclosed in its Non-Confidential Summary that it is implementing adjustments to iOS to increase data portability between iOS and “different operating systems” as part of its DMA Compliance Report. This indicates that Apple is working on solutions to make the process of transferring data from iPhone to Android easier. Apple intends to implement this update in the fall of 2025.

The Verge was the first to find this document, which shows that Apple is implementing more changes to comply with the EU’s DMA, which takes effect this week. Although the business will not produce its own tool, other operating system developers can use the tools that Apple provides to gather user data and create their own tools.

EU DMA Safari Data Transfer Apple iOS App Store

Currently, Google provides a Switch to Android app that facilitates data transfer, including text messages, movies, notes, contacts, free apps, and images. Alarms, documents, call logs, eSIMs, files, passwords, wallpapers, and web browser bookmarks, on the other hand, cannot be transferred via it. With any luck, the impending iOS update will facilitate the transfer of those kinds of customer data as well.

Samsung may enhance Smart Switch with the impending iOS updates

It is a possibility that Apple might make available standard methods (or APIs) for other companies to utilize in the development of data transmission products. We anticipate Samsung utilizing those enhancements to further enhance the data transmission Smart Switch app.

Apple has implemented several measures to enhance data portability, such as a “browser switching solution” that facilitates data transfer between web browsers on the same device. Early 2025 or late 2024 will see the availability of this capability. It will also be feasible to modify the iPhone’s default navigation system in the European Union by March 2025.
