A report suggests that Apple could introduce a foldable iPad in the future

We have already experienced much with foldable smartphones but what about a foldable iPad? Among several other smartphone manufacturers, Apple is one company that has not introduced its foldable smartphone yet. Although some rumors suggest that the company has been working on a foldable smartphone there is nothing official yet.

According to a gated peek of an upcoming DigiTimes piece revealed today, Apple is thinking about introducing a foldable iPad in the future. The preview quotes insiders from the upstream supply chain as saying, “Apple, who is rumored to have been developing on foldable smartphones for a long time, reportedly is thinking about expanding the effort to the tablet sector.”

Well, the recent report is supportive of some previous rumors. Back in January 2023, Ming Chi-Kuo claimed that the company might introduce a foldable iPad next year. At that time, Mark Gurman (Bloomberg) and Ross Young (CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants) argued that they had not come across any such piece of information. Furthermore, Kuo claimed that the foldable iPad could be a lightweight device featuring an all-new design. It could come with a secure carbon fiber kickstand.

Similar to the foldable smartphone offered by Samsung and Google, a foldable iPad might feature a hinge that will enable the device to be treated like a book. It will offer a larger display in contrast to the current offerings in the unfolded state. At the same time, it could be more expensive than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro which is priced at $1,099.

Although Apple hasn’t yet introduced any products with foldable displays, rumors say the company is planning to eventually introduce foldable versions of the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. It is unknown whether Apple will ever release any of these products or if the plans will just ever be for research and development.
