A rumor suggests that the Huawei P70 will be powered by the Kirin 9010

According to some recent pieces of information, the Huawei P70 series will be powered by the Kirin 9010 chipset. The information was shared by Smart Pikachu on Weibo. One thing to notice here is that the chipset mentioned above has not been officially announced yet. For quite some time now, it has been in the works.

The Kirin 9010 chipset was mentioned by a tipster almost three years ago. According to the tipster, it will be a 3nm chip. Although TSMC was the most likely foundry, this is currently uncertain due to trade restrictions on Huawei. Just a few days ago, it was reported that the company was shipping laptops with Kirin 9006C chipsets. Notably, the chips were fabricated by TSMC. Later on, it was unveiled that it was part of old stock.

Currently, SMIC is working on 7nm chips similar to Kirin 9000s. When it comes to performance, the 5nm nodes from TSMC are far better than the 7nm chips from SMIC. SMIC is likely developing a 3nm node, but that will likely take years. The question here is whether the Kirin 9010 is actually a 3nm chip or if the company is just using the name. Unless Huawei manages to get over the trade prohibitions, the answer could be the latter. The business filed for a trademark in 2021 for the name but those plans were abandoned, as production was supposed to begin in 2022.

The upcoming Huawei P70 series might arrive with a 5G connectivity feature. Moreover, a rumor suggests that the P70 Art will feature an ultrawide camera with a 1-inch type sensor and 1G6P lens (one glass and six plastic elements). In addition to this, the company is also working on its own sensors, which are expected to debut on the P70 series. The P70 series might arrive at some point in March.
