As per the details, the Leader of Senate Minority Chuch Schumer asked for the FBI and FTC, the United States protection body, to investigate into the national security & privacy risks regarding the app, FaceApp.
The app is being used by the millions of the US national but was developed by a company based at Saint Petersburg, Russia.
“The location mentioned by ‘FaceApp’ raises several questions about how and when the company provides access the data of the citizens of the United States to parties, including potentially foreign government,” the Senator said in a letter send to the FBI.
“It would be deeply troubling if the sensitive personal information of the US citizens was provided to a hostile foreign power actively engaged in cyber hostilities against the US,” he mentioned.
Schumer is not the only Democrat in the US who is worried about this app. As per the report published in the Washington Post, the National Committee of the party has already warned the campaigners in the primaries ahead of the presidential elections in 2020 to delete the app immediately.
The representatives of FaceApp have not responded to the letter wrote by the US senator but the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company told the Washington Post that the company didn’t use the photos of the users for any other purpose.
