A Video goes Viral of Saudi Women Going to Cinema for the First Time in History

Hollywood hit, Black Panther was the first movie that was shown in Saudi Arab cinema in Riyadh on April 18th. As per Saudi government, the event marked “the showing of the first commercial film in the kingdom after more than 35 years.”

Since the opening of first cinema & first show in Riyadh a video has gone viral showing how hundreds of Saudi women along with men are going inside the theatre like a tsunami.

The audience enjoyed the first screening of the movie, eating popcorns and praising the performances with claps and hoots.

Saudi Minister of Culture and Information Awwad Alawwad said, “This is a landmark moment in the transformation of Saudi Arabia into a more vibrant economy and society.”

Developing cinemas in Saudi Arab is not just for entertainment purposes. The movie theatres will contribute over 90 billion riyals or $24 billion to the Saudi economy and open jobs for 30,000 individuals by 2030. As per the Saudi Government, by 2030 there will be 300 theaters and 2000 screen in the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that Vox Cinemas, a subsidiary of Majid Al-Futtaim Group has won the second license to operate cinemas in Saudi Arabia. SR2 billion will be invested by Al-Futtaim Group to open 600 screens in the kingdom and provide job opportunities to 3000 job seekers in the next five years.

It seems that Saudi Arabia is evolving as a country, empowering its women and providing entertainment options in the Kingdom.
