Gmail users sending spam emails to their own Gmail account

Many users of Google’s e-mailing service, Gmail, have claimed that they received ads sent to them from their own Gmail accounts. They received the spam emails despite updating their passwords and enabling two-factor authentication, according to media reports.

The spammers have been using forged email headers/subjects to make that emails appear as though they are being sent via “Telus”, a “Canadian Telecommunications Company”. The subject of the emails read “weight loss and growth supplements for men”, media reports added.

“We are aware of a spam campaign impacting a small subset of Gmail users and have actively taken measures to protect against it. We have identified and are reclassifying all offending emails as spam, and have no reason to believe any accounts were compromised as part of this incident.” A Google’s spokesperson said.

Gmail filed the emails into affected users’ sent folder because the emails apparently coming from the same account of the Gmail’s user.

“My Gmail account has sent out 3 spam emails during the past hour. The emails were sent to a list of 10 addresses that I don’t recognize. I changed my password immediately when I received the first email, but after that, it happened again and I received two more emails,” a Gmail user wrote on “Google Help Forum”.
