The global semiconductor and PC markets were significantly impacted by the ongoing economic conditions. Reportedly, the quarterly report concerning the international PC market has been shared by Canalys. Thankfully, the numbers are a relief after several downturns since this year, which took off with a rugged pattern.
The report claims that between July and September 2023, 65.5 million units of PCs were shipped. These numbers are 6.7% less than the same timeframe last year. However, they are quite good as compared to the 30% yearly decline reported in Q1 2023.
Even after taking into account the demand boost from the education sector that occurred in Q2, major players like Lenovo, Dell, Apple, and Asus still posted sequential growth in shipments. The main takeaway is that they all cleared stock and are in an improved financial situation.
According to the breakdown of the market leaders, Apple is experiencing a 29% reduction in overall shipments, although Canalys pointed out that the company had a great third quarter of the previous year when it was able to meet pent-up demand due to the pandemic.
Kieren Jessop, Research Analyst at Canalys, states that the issues that were previously blocking the growth of the PC market are now easing slowly and gradually. Perhaps AI could lead to positive growth in the industry. We can expect increased demand. In addition to this, some anticipate that the usage of AI-capable PCs will speed up in 2025.
