Ad Companies continue to Boycott Facebook

Many of the ad companies are boycotting Facebook and Instagram. Just recently the renowned ice cream brand Ben and Jerry stopped all its ads on Facebook and Instagram. It is part of its “#StopHateForProfit” campaign.

Last week, there were a group of six organizations that have requested the Facebook ad companies to stop spending on the social platform. These organizations include Sleeping Giants, Color of Change, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the Anti Defamation League. These organizations basically want large brands to take a step and prove that they will not support a platform that puts profit over people.

Since the campaign started many other companies have joined it including Patagonia, The North Face, REI, Upwork, and many others.

In a blog post, the American ice cream maker Ben and Jerry’s which is owned by Unilever said, “Ben & Jerry’s stands with our friends at the NAACP and Color of Change, the ADL, and all those calling for Facebook to take stronger action to stop its platforms from being used to divide our nation, suppress voters, foment and fan the flames of racism and violence, and undermine our democracy.”

There are a set of suggestions that have been given to Facebook by the campaign initiators. The group demands Facebook to add a separate moderation system for Facebook users who have been discriminated against on the platform on the basis of their race or religion. Similarly, the American ice cream maker has also recommended Facebook to meet the demands of the campaign and take action accordingly.
