AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D sold out globally within hours

AMD’s new top CPU for gamers impressed in tests. Sales started two days ago. If you haven’t secured one of the processors yet, you will probably have to wait a long time, because the retailers’ shelves were completely empty after a short time.

AMD’s gaming CPU sold out straight away

Right from the official market launch on Thursday, there was already a big rush for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It took less than an hour until the quotas at most German dealers were exhausted. Providers like Alternate and Mindfactory According to the pictures and videos posted on social media, there are probably quite a few processors in stock.

However, customer interest in the CPUs was exceptionally high. Things were no different in the rest of the world either. So reported Tom’s Hardware about a similar situation in the USA. The 9800X3D was also sold out at all major online retailers shortly after its release. How 3DCenter writes, it was the same in other European countries, such as Poland and Sweden.

Scalpers try their luck

The only way to get one of the processors at the moment is to pay the highly inflated prices charged by scalpers who offer their goods on platforms like eBay. Some ‘dealers’ are currently trying to sell the CPUs there for over 930 euros plus shipping. With this price, the offer is more than 75 percent above the RRP of 529 euros.

However, it is still completely unclear when customers will be able to purchase the Ryzen 7 9800X3D at this price again. Delivery times for pre-orders that were still visible yesterday spoke of dates until the end of December. However, this information has now also disappeared. However, no one should pay the prices advertised on eBay.

Ryzen 9 on hold

AMD had shipped no small number of processors. However, customer demand was obviously greatly underestimated. AMD will probably present its next CPUs with 3D V-Cache at the next CES in January 2025. With the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and the Ryzen 9 9950X3D there will be another change in leadership in the ranking of top processors for gamers.
