AMD Ryzen 7000: Further details on the new Zen 4 processors revealed

AMD is sticking to the launch period of its new Ryzen 7000 processors in the second quarter and will be presenting a handful of information about the upcoming Zen 4 CPUs at CES 2022. In addition, the performance was demonstrated for the first time in a live demo of Halo Infinite. With a new edition of its Zen 3 chips in combination with a “3D cache” (e.g. Ryzen 7 5800X3D), the chip manufacturer continues to put pressure on Intel in the spring and is preparing for the start of the Ryzen 7000 family with Zen 4 architecture Autumn before.

In the course of the Consumer Electronics Show, AMD confirmed once again that the chips manufactured in the 5 nm process in an almost square design including a revised heat spreader in LGA format (without pins) will be placed on the new AM5 socket.

DDR5 RAM, PCIe 5.0 and 5 GHz in multi-core operation

Comparable to Intel’s Alder Lake processors, the Ryzen 7000 CPUs should have 1718 contacts and support DDR5 memory and the PCI Express 5.0 standard. Despite the new socket, the company announces that coolers designed for the current AM4 socket can still be used. The upgrade costs for interested parties are thus slightly reduced. There should be no Ryzen 6000 series for desktop PCs. It is reserved for the mobile Rembrandt chips, which were also announced at the fair. Even if AMD is holding back with technical details, for the time being, the manufacturer gave a first look at the gaming performance of the Ryzen 7000 processors.

The fact that Halo Infinite could be seen liquid on stage in a 1080p resolution caused little fuss. It seems much more interesting than all CPU cores were able to work in parallel with a 5 GHz clock. It can therefore be assumed that the individual cores could achieve an even higher maximum clock rate in single-core operation. Confirmation is still pending.
