PlayStation VR2: Sony names specifications, presents first game

As part of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which is currently taking place in Las Vegas, Sony has confirmed its new virtual reality glasses. Unsurprisingly, this is called PlayStation VR2, but the Japanese have not yet shown it. A game has already been announced for this. Sony is on-site at CES 2022 and has used this opportunity to present an accessory for the PlayStation 5 – which is a bit unusual since you usually reserve independent events for your console. PlayStation VR2 (PSVR2), however, was unveiled at the first (and canceled) consumer electronics show of the year.

This is probably due to the fact that “presented” means a lot because the new VR headset was not shown. However, Sony has already given the first specifications for the glasses themselves and the controller, which is now officially called Sense. The headset supports haptic feedback, eye tracking, 4K HDR, 90 / 120Hz refresh rates, and 2000-2040 pixels per eye, so-called foveated rendering, and a field of view of 110 degrees. In addition, the PlayStation VR2 is connected to the PS5 via a single USB-C cable. Horizon Call of the Mountain: PSVR2 Game Teaser Trailer

Horizon Zero Dawn offshoot for VR

PlayStation boss Jim Ryan has already announced the first game for the new PlayStation VR version: Horizon Call of the Mountain. The game is an offshoot of the Guerrilla Games hit Horizon Zero Dawn and Sony has already presented its first teaser trailer. In it Jan-Bart Van Beek, Studio Director of Guerrilla, speaks about the new VR game, it is more of a general announcement with the industry warm words about “new and groundbreaking immersive technology”.

At least: At the end of the video there is a first quick look at the new VR perspective of the game. Sony has not announced when the headset and Horizon Call of the Mountain will be available, but it would be no surprise if the whole thing was ready for fall sales this year.
