AMD To Launch Three New Ryzen CPUs On January 10

Information about three Ryzen 7000 CPUs has appeared online, which will probably be presented in early January 2023. They remove the suffix X – indicating a significantly lower maximum power – but are only slightly cheaper than the namesake.

AMD can no longer offer a surprise next year

What do you get when you lower the TDP of the Ryzen 7000 X family to 65 watts? AMD will provide an answer to this question early next year. As Videocardz reports, they want to have seen a presentation from AMD in which the new products are presented in more detail. Accordingly, three CPU models are to be unveiled on January 10th: Ryzen 9 7900 with 12 cores, Ryzen 7 7700 with 8 cores, and Ryzen 5 7600 with 6 cores, all based on the Zen4 architecture.

Another slide of the presentation on which AMD names the targeted price recommendations is also interesting. According to this, the Ryzen 9 7900 model wants to charge 429 US dollars, Ryzen 7 7700 and Ryzen 5 7600 will follow with 349 dollars and 229 dollars respectively. 

As Videocardz notes, AMD shouldn’t cause much euphoria at the launch with these prices. The reason: the price of the 7000X models has recently fallen significantly, so the difference to the new CPUs should be very small right from the start.

Of course, one of the arguments for the new CPUs is the lower maximum performance. AMD draws a comparison here in the documents between a system with Ryzen 9 7900 (65 watts) and Ryzen 9 5900X (105 watts) and Radeon RX 6950XT GPU. However, the newer CPU is also supported by DDR5-6000, while the old model uses DDR4-3600 RAM. The result: On average, the performance increase for 12 tested games is 19 percent.
