Android: Google’s June drop brings many new features to the smartphone

The June drop for Android smartphones brings some new features. These include, among other things, AI-supported protection against fraud calls, a digital wardrobe and simplified data exchange with iPhones.

Security against scam calls

In June 2026, Android smartphones worldwide will receive new functions. A central component of the current rollout is expanded protection against telephone fraud. Criminals are increasingly relying on artificially generated voice imitations, which is why the mobile operating system is introducing automatic detection of fake calls. The system uses the RCS message protocol to check in the background whether the call actually comes from the saved contact’s device.

If the encrypted confirmation signal is missing when the call is made, the smartphone warns the user on the screen and advises them to hang up immediately. A disadvantage of the function is the high technical hurdle. The comparison only works if both parties have installed the apps for telephone, contacts and messages. Users of devices with proprietary apps, such as those commonly used by Samsung, are often left out of detection for the time being.

AI for clothes and books

Like Google in the official announcement announced for the Android drop in June, further innovations will be introduced. The Circle to Search search function can now recognize complete outfits in photos on models from Android 14 and identify all items of clothing at once. There is no need to manually search for individual parts and the system suggests suitable purchase offers online. In keeping with the theme of fashion, Google Photos is getting a digital wardrobe. The software analyzes worn clothing from older images and uses it to create a virtual wardrobe. Users can try out combinations and test outfits on a digital image.

The function will initially launch in the USA, India and Brazil. Whether and when European users will be able to use the virtual mirror remains unclear for the time being. Book fans also benefit from new functions. Google Play Books will summarize chapters you have read in the future if you have paused a book for a longer period of time. In addition, passages of text can be marked in order to ask Gemini specific questions about characters or the context of the action. However, the tool is currently only available for English-language titles.

Share files more easily
