Android Trojans go undetected in the Google Play Store

An analysis by antivirus provider Dr.Web shows that Google has a growing problem with fake apps in the Play Store. This includes apps that pretend to release additional features for WhatsApp, as well as navigation and photos apps. All contain dangerous trojans. That reports that Bleeping Computer Online Magazine Lately, there are more and more apps in the Google Play Store that are infected with malware and steal, for example, banking information and passwords of users. We have already reported on a number of such applications.

Now Dr.Web has a new analysis submitted, which shows how big the problem is with the malware in the Play Store. Security researchers have recently noticed a spate of Trojan infiltrations on the Google Play Store. One of the discovered apps already had more than 500,000 installs. Google currently has very little control over the cyber gangster’s offers. But there is also a resurgence of subscription traps. Subscriptions are closed undetected in the apps, but no service is returned. Some of these apps have made it to the Google Play Store, giving users a false sense of security. Others are distributed in the more traditional ways of Android malware. These include a new Android Trojan in the form of a WhatsApp mod that is offered for download from shady websites promoted through social media posts and forums.

Trojan Horses rising on the Play Store

Among the threats posed by Dr. Spotted on the Play Store, the web includes cryptocurrency management apps, wellness support tools, Gazprom investment clones, photo editors, and a launcher inspired by iOS 15. A majority of the apps that Dr. Web has already been removed by Google – but they were available months ago. But there’s a good chance that the people behind it will now bring them back to the store in a different way.
