Google is withdrawing production of Pixel smartphones from China

Google plans to completely stop manufacturing products from its Pixel family in China starting next year. It is said that production will be completely relocated to Vietnam. Google had previously withdrawn development from China.

First the development, now the production

The US technology group Google is planning to completely withdraw production of Pixel series products from China. The company reportedly wants to build all devices such as Pixel smartphones and tablets only in Vietnam from 2027. The corresponding steps have been underway for some time. According to a report from the Japanese Economic Service Nikkei Asia Google wants to handle all steps in the production of devices like the Pixel 11 series in Vietnam. It was already heard a few months ago that the company was moving the development and production of the devices completely to the Southeast Asian country after they were previously produced in China.

Tooling and verification successfully completed

Google first had to invest in test equipment and tooling for the production facilities in Vietnam before verifying and optimizing the manufacturing processes, it is said. After these steps have been successfully completed, mass production is now being expanded so that the next generation of Pixel smartphones can probably only be built in Vietnam, according to the report. Google also benefits from the fact that Samsung had previously built up a complete production chain for mobile devices in Vietnam over many years. Google can reportedly move production of its hardware products from China to Vietnam more easily because, unlike the case of Apple iPhones, the devices are not officially offered in the Chinese market. Political consequences are therefore unlikely, while Apple always has to fear for the favor of the Chinese government.

The Internet company Google is said to have instructed its suppliers and contract manufacturers to make preparations for an increase in sales of the Pixel 11 series compared to the previous model series. Google is reportedly expecting an increase of eight to ten percent compared to the approximately 12 million units sold in 2025. In order to cushion the extremely increased prices for memory products, Google is now allegedly bundling orders for memory for use in its smartphones with orders for memory for data centers in order to obtain larger quantities at presumably slightly cheaper prices and to ensure supply.
