App Crash Blue Screen Of Death: .Net Framework Update Causes Problems

Microsoft has admitted that two current updates for the Windows 10 .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 can cause problems for users. Users report app crashes and the infamous Blue Screens of Death (BSOD).

These are the updates KB4598299 and KB459830. These two updates have been released for Windows 10 versions 1909, 2004 and 20H2. The updates address problems in the .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8, but have some “side effects”, as is the case with Windows updates again and again. The updates now bring new problems of their own.

A restart only helps for a short time

According to Beta News, one of the applications affected is Visual Studio. Further problems can be found in the Windows Presentation Foundation, which affects various apps. Programs have crashed more frequently since the update, and sometimes nothing works. The PC hangs unexpectedly due to the error and then only shows the Blue Screen of Death. After a restart, those affected report that they can continue to work normally for a short time, but then app crashes are followed by a BSOD.

In response to the accumulated complaints from users, Microsoft wrote in the Visual Studio forums that the problem should be fixed soon. The company said, “A fix for this issue has been implemented in-house and is being prepared for release. We will keep you informed when it is available for download.”

Since the coming week is patch day, the troubleshooting could already be brought on the way. For now, the only one hundred percent solution is to uninstall KB4598299 or KB4598301 again.
